Even as Anushka Sharma is celebrating her road thriller NH10 which has hit just the right notes, Geeta Basra too has a reason to rejoice. She has started shooting for her film that has been tantalizingly titled Lock. Yet again, the film is a road thriller and just like NH10, it too is set in one night. The first schedule of the film is currently being shot in Chandigarh.
Unlike NH10 though, Lock is not a heroine centric film and is instead an ensemble affair. Being made in Punjabi, the film stars superstar Gippy Grewal (with whom Geeta is already doing Second Hand Husband) and popular comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi in principle roles. Incidentally, director Smeep Kang, who has made popular films like Carry on Jatta, Lucky Di Unlucky Story and Bhaji in Problem, and enjoys a cent percent record so far is not just coming behind the camera but also in front of it by turning a director.
In the times when Punjabi cinema is primarily churning out one comic film after another, Lock is being touted as a one of its kind affairs. Touted to change the face of Punjabi cinema, the film is being projected as a 'family thriller' which would showcase each of its cast members in a different light altogether.
For Geeta Basra in particular, the film is special since she is enjoying her new innings in the film industry, after starting her career with Emraan Hashmi in two back to back films (Dil Diya Hai, The Train). Now that she is doing a couple of films with Gippy Grewal, who is a heartthrob in Punjabi cinema, and is playing across genres (Second Hand Husband is a light hearted musical rom-com while Lock is a thriller), Geeta has a lot to look forward to.
Since the film is a thriller set in one night, obviously I can't say much about it. Whatever I utter about the plot or my characterization would end up revealing a lot," smiles Geeta, "We have started the shoot though and I am enjoying every bit of what I am doing on the film."
Apparently, one would get to see the 'desi avtar' of Geeta with the film but she is keeping silent on this part.
Also, on being asked about her impending marriage with Harbhajan Singh (recently there were rumors of them tying the knot pretty soon), all that one gets to hear is some stony silence.
Geeta is happy to talk about her work though. "This year should be special," she says, "Second Hand Husband (which also marks the debut of Govinda's daughter Tina Ahuja) as well as Lock should be arriving within few months of each other. There is so much to look forward to, more so since I have an altogether contrasting part to play in both films."
We look forward to that.
