The ApunKaChoice movie review of Hunterrr. Debutant director Harshvardhan Kulkarni’s film Hunterrr scores on many counts. It’s very unlike the raunchy sex comedies we’ve seen by the dozen in Bollywood. It’s told in an interesting non-linear style and has some good performances.
'Hunterrr' starts off well with a glimpse into the life of the protagonist Mandar Ponkshe (Gulshan Devaiah), an irrepressible sex addict for whom getting laid is a bodily need as normal and compulsory as excretion.
From childhood, Mandar has had a runaway libido. As a grown up man he’s a voyeur, a stalker, a skirt-chaser who swears by the mantra ‘wham bam thank you mam’. Be it a married woman next door, or a college girl, or Savita Bhabhi, Mandar just can’t contain his excitement in his pants. But then his heart and conscience begin to get the better of his most active bodily organ.
'Hunterrr' is laced with light humour from start to end. Mandar’s sexploits may look repetitive after a while, but never do they get uninteresting. Not until the second half when the film erratically changes track and becomes a grim, emotion-laden drama.
It’s this erratic dysfunction that does 'Hunterrr' in. And a film that starts off promisingly ends up firing blanks.
Gulshan Devaiah is convincing as the unassuming horny hero and Radhika Apte as his love interest has a notable screen presence. Sai Tamhankar as the woman-next-door does well for her part.
Funny, irreverent, but never sleazy or off-putting, 'Hunterrr' is a comedy about sex that starts off well, goes limp and is too long for one’s comfort.
Venture into it with caution.
