Sikh wedding for Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput

We’ve noticed a few thing about the wedding ceremony that hint at it being an Anand Karaj

After months of speculation, curiosity and excitement, Shahid Kapoor finally got married to his Delhi based ladylove, Mira Rajput, in a very close and intimate ceremony today morning with just about 40 odd members from both families. And though some reports suggest that the two united in an Arya Samaj wedding and other claim that they followed the rituals of the Radha Soami Satsang Beas organization, we believe that the two tied the knot in an Anand Karaj, the Sikh wedding ceremony.

We recently came across this picture of Shahid and Mira posing with Bhai Harjinder Singh, a popular raagi from the Sikh community who are known for their soul-touching rendition of Gurbani (religious hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib) and Gurbani Kirtan is part of the Anand Karaj.

Earlier too, we had our doubts when we found the first pic of the couple from the ceremony since Mira was wearing a chudidaar-kameez which is again a traditional attire for the Anad Karaj and held her dupata overhead like a typical Punjabi bride. Shahid too had a turban on his head, a compulsion in a Sikh wedding.

For the uninitiated, Anand Karaj is the name given to the Sikh wedding ritual where the bride and groom take four pheras of the Guru Granth Sahib. Before every phera, a small hymn explaining the significance of the phera is sung by a raagi group.
