It looks like 2015 already has another 100-crore film on the cards with the superlative earnings of Welcome Back in its first weekend.
The film, facing no competition at the box-office, got off to a swell start with Rs 14.35 crore on Friday, the third highest opening day collection this year after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Brothers. Witnessing a 20% growth on Saturday thanks to the Janamasthami holiday, the film did business worth Rs 17.05 crore, with family audiences taking to the film in a big way. Collections grew by almost the same amount on Sunday and the multistarrer made Rs 19.60 crore on the third day.
So far, the three-day total for Welcome Back stands at Rs 51 crore, which is the third highest this year. The film has also performed exceptionally overseas with Rs 21.38 crore in the kitty. If this trend of big earnings continues, the film can look to enjoy solid collections through the weekdays as well.
Despite the strong start, Phantom’s box-office run has started to fizzle out. The film collected a mere Rs 93 lakhs on Friday, reaching a total of Rs 48.33 crore India wide. The collections are not likely to grow from here.
