Angry Indian Goddesses quick movie review:

Sarah-Jane Dias – Tannishtha Chatterjee’s rocking celebration of womenhood will leave you breathless!

Directed by Pan Nalin, the female centric film hits the screens tomorrow

Goa was the backdrop of iconic male bonding film Dil Chahta Hai. And Goa seems to be the place again where India’s first female buddy film unfolds. Directed by Pan Nalin, Angry Indian Goddesses stars Sarah-Jane Dias, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anushka Manchanda, Sandhya Mridul, Amrit Maghera, Pavleen Gujral & Rajshri Deshpande.

While the film is all set to release tomorrow. our reviewer Preeti Kulkarni is watching the press show right now and this is what she has to say about the film:

“ As a woman when I attempt to watch a film in feministic genre, I am already wary for this word has been bastardised beyond compare and misconstrued in many ways. So, I was a little unsure of this film, I am not kidding! But this movie, at least till the interval, was a revelation.

Needless to say, the film’s heroes are seven fabulous, sexy, robust, brave women played by Sandhya Mridul, Amrit Maghera, Anushka Manchanda, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Rajshri Deshpande, Pavleen Gujral and Sarah Jane Dias. The film takes you through their lives individual journeys and the way their lives intersect with each other against the dreamy backdrop of Goa. These women are real, strong and effing angry. Angry at the way they are objectified, labeled and victimised. There are some sequences in the film that will just blow your mind and you will crack up like crazy with a warm feeling in your gut, while other scenes will make you retrospective of your own life. AIG is filled with infectious energy which will make you want to just throw your head back and chill soaking in the on screen characters’ mad, mad world. Director Pan Nalin has really taken a lot of efforts to go inside the psyche and soul of women and explore the question which has confused many a men through centuries: What women really want!!

So, these women are the ones you will find in every walk of life, maybe you will find yourself in one of them or all. One wants to be a Bollywood actress, one is a typical Delhi housewife, one is a tough bitch single mother, one is an activist, one is an artist, one sings soul searching songs…but all, all are searching the meaning to their lives. We have seen men leeching at women but here, watch these seven ladies openly admiring the ‘beauty’ of their hot, shirtless neighbour who is busy washing his car, pleasantly in oblivious to his surroundings :p!

Another scene which will make your heart soar is a little item number underneath a shower in open air by the Anglo Indian Jo and the maid, Lakshmi. You will fall in love with these women and then with yourself, that’s a given! There is a fleeting reference to Goddess Kali, the angry and ferocious form of Goddess Durga, which attempts to explain the title Angry Indian Goddesses. The first half ends on a startling sombre note, let’s see if the second part has the potential to hook us on.”
