Fitoor Trailer Review : Should We Have ‘Great Expectations’ From This Adaptation?

Director Abhishek Kapoor had announced Fitoor as his pet project since quite long and almost three years later, here it is. The trailer of the film released yesterday, starring Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur and Tabu.

Slated to release in the Valentine’s week, Fitoor is an adaptation of the timeless romantic story of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. In most cases, I am not a fan of films that are adapted from books. Why? Well, when it comes to creating a prose story on celluloid, the directors tend to take huge cinematic liberties, thus disheartening true readers who perfectly enjoy the story as is.

Although in case of Fitoor, I have to agree I am keen to watch this film considering it has been directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the same director who made Kai Po Che from Chetan Bhagat’s Three Mistakes Of My Life. Let’s face it, his film was much better than the book!

Also churning out a film like Rock On previously, I need to give credit to his directorial skills.
Coming to the trailer, Fitoor is based in the icy valleys of Kashmir. The saga of love between a young orphan and a rich girl who is brought up by her eccentric and obsessive mother, the antagonist of the story. Adding Indian touch to this tale, Fitoor also mixes some Kashmir Politics to spice it up.

While girls may swoon over Adiya Roy Kapur’s bare chest, I wish we could say the same about his act. Amongst the three lead stars, definitely Tabu shines but is also slightly reminiscent of her character from Haider. Katrina looks pretty in each frame but hopefully she will deliver a better performance too. The last we saw her was Phantom and sadly it was quite a huge disappointment.

Best part about the trailer is definitely the cinematography. Kashmir is always a delight. The music too seemed quite impressive and with Amit Trivedi composing it, we should definitely expect some good melodies.

All in all we do have some expectations from the film if not ‘Great’!
