Baar Baar Dekho vs Freaky Ali Box office report

Two polarised movies hit the screens today, Nitha Mehra’s Baar Baar Dekho starring Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra and Sohail Khan’s Freaky Ali starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amy Jackson. It’s definitely not a clash of the titans but well, a clash is a clash, right?

When it comes to reach, Baar Baar Dekho definitely has an upper hand, thanks to its aggressive promotional strategy. Whereas Freaky Ali hardly created any buzz with its trailer and music. On the other hand songs like Kaala Chashma, Sau Aasman, Nachne De Saare from Baar Baar Dekho have crossed millions of views on Youtube and is on everyone’s playlists. Screen count wise, Freaky Ali has been allotted one third compared to that of BBD.

According to the first day's early trend reports, Baar Baar Dekho has opened up to around 30 to 40% occupancy which will positively grow by evening. Thus, a 10 crore on day one looks attainable. The film is well anticipated, hence it’ll enjoy a successful weekend.

Nevertheless, it’ll loose some bucks to Freaky Ali - that has opened to a strictly average occupancy of 15%, which in any other big project film would seem low, but given the case of Freaky Ali’s solid content and reach, the occupancy is not bad. Something close to around 2 to 3 crore is a bankable amount for this film.

Katrina Kaif, who was the queen of the ticket windows just a couple of years back, is having a dry run lately (poor performance of Phantom and Fitoor at the box-office), hence the commercial success of Baar Baar Dekho really matters. Will the flop streak continue for her or will she be back with her Midas touch? Time will tell.

Nawazuddin has proved his mettle time and again when it comes to acting and screen presence. He’s one of the finest actors we have, but will he be able to fulfil a Salman Khan production mark or will his off-beat career film graph suffice as a solo lead?

All these answers are to be found out in the weekend to come.

Meanwhile, A R Murgodass’s Akira starring Sonakshi Sinha has been struggling since day one and is inching for a Rs. 32-33 crore lifetime collection.
