Katrina Kaif - break-up with Ranbir Kapoor the best thing for her career

We've been seeing a new version of Katrina Kaif during the promotions of Baar Baar Dekho. Is her break-up with Ranbir the reason?

Lately, we've seen a whole new Katrina Kaif. And it's not just the abs. It's a whole new attitude. The Fitoor actor has been over-compensating for a rather dull 18 months, where her personal life with Ranbir Kapoor made more news than her films Phantom or Fitoor. She's back with a vengeance in Nitya Mehra's Baar Baar Dekho, where she looks fitter, better-looking and more vivacious than ever. What changed? One of the things - her relationship status. Would it be right to call her break-up with Ranbir Kapoor the best thing to have happened to her career? Maybe.

Katrina Kaif entered mainstream Bollywood in Salman Khan's Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. Fresh out of Great Britain, she could barely speak the language, however, she had dreams of becoming a respected actor in the country. Shy in front of the paparazzi, reporters, interviews, Kaif was guided by her rumoured boyfriend Salman Khan through the regular drivel, as she took some time to getting used to the language, the culture and the lingos.

She went on to do a string of films which all did really well at the box office, and before you knew it she was being touted as the luckiest actor in the industry. She had five consecutive hits between the years 2007-08 and was already at the summit of Bollywood success. In spite of the success, language continued to be a problem, especially interacting with the non-English media, interviews, even fans. Kaif was an icy princess, who could be admired from a distance, however, connecting with her audience did not quite happen.

Cut to 2009's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani, when Katrina was no longer the 'lucky actor' that she had been called till then. And she made it a point to to circle that bit in interviews, where the reporters would introduce her as the 'beautiful Katrina Kaif.' She was backed ably by Ranbir Kapoor, with who she did two successive films including Prakash Jha's Rajneeti. She started demanding the recongition of being an actor and she did quite earn it with both her film opposite Ranbir Kapoor - Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani and Rajneeti.

Even though Katrina saw big hits in Bang Bang and Dhoom 3, she became the passive element in the movies. All conversations would center around her alleged relationship with her co-star who helped her find her voice as an actor - Ranbir Kapoor. Katrina was back to her shy self in the interviews, as she didn't have much to speak about her work. Her role of a trapeze artist had the job to showcase her talent in two songs. That was her part in a film with running time of 172 mins. She took up performance-oriented roles in Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor and Kabir Khan's Phantom, which for all sense and purpose looked like a reboot of her hit film Ek Tha Tiger.

There was a feeling of fatigue on the image of Katrina Kaif. She didn't look very interested in her projects. However, all that's changed with Baar Baar Dekho where she seems to be infected by the energy of her co-star Sidharth Malhotra. She seems more forthcoming about her film's release, where she has been actively promoting the film in the various cities of India, doing dubsmash, taking part in flash-mobs, going out of her way to answer each and every question addressed to her, including about her abs and her breakup under the spotlight, with Ranbir Kapoor.

Is this Katrina's way of showing the world, she's unaffected by the break-up. Or that she's moved on and is more happier than ever? We'll never know. But we know one thing, we love this version of Katrina Kaif 2.0, don't we?
