Paris Hilton claims that Utah Boarding School staff sexually assaulted her |
The "I'm Free" singer opened her congressional testimony by talking about the horrific experience she had as a teenager at the Provo Canyon School.
Paris Hilton spoke before Congress on Wednesday, June 26, sharing her story of being forced to take medication and experiencing sexual abuse while attending the Provo Canyon School. During her testimony regarding the abuse that children and teenagers experience within the American welfare system, the 43-year-old Simple Life star expressed her heartbreak for the foster and adopted youngsters involved in the programmes.
Page Six reports that Paris gave her own perspective of the "harm that is caused by being placed in youth residential treatment facilities" before illuminating the wider problem. She described being taken against her will to the facility, as she had done in the past, and then she spoke out about the mistreatment she had experienced there. She told the MPs, "I was sexually abused by the staff and force-fed medications." "I was taken into solitary confinement, stripped naked, and violently restrained. I was also dragged down hallways."
The singer of "Stars are Blind" revealed how the school "deceived" her parents and stressed the need for reform to safeguard children whose parents don't visit their children in these facilities, which has resulted in tragedies like the recent death of a young person in one of the schools. "These stories break my heart as a mum," the mother remarked. "It is criminal the treatment these kids have received. Until the kids of America are safe, I won't give up.
In numerous interviews, Paris has been outspoken about her experience attending the Provo Canyon School. She has also been open in her memoir and documentary This Is Paris about the alleged abuse she experienced. Other celebrities who have gone through similar things as her, such as her family friend Paris Jackson, have joined her in protests against the institution.
In a 2021 interview with Hollywood Life, the reality star disclosed that she was hoping to collaborate more on reform initiatives with Michael Jackson's daughter. "I've known her since she was born, so hearing that from her, her story, was really moving. It's both fantastic to have her support and unexpected. She told me to call her whenever and she’ll be there, so I’m going to be planning something soon, definitely,” she said.
