The forthcoming epic Nanak Shah Fakir, said to be the first-of-its-kind movie in over five centuries of Sikh history, has generated curiosity as it's based on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak. Besides, the preachings in the film, depicted through the voice of his friend, companion and disciple, a Muslim fakir called Bhai Mardana, are relevant in today's era as well.
Point in case is one of the teachings that start with Bhand Jamiye (we're born of woman), Bhand Nimmiye (of woman conceived), which deals with respecting women and their value in the circle of life. Considering that the focus is on women empowerment in social debates and the media, there perhaps couldn't have been a more apt time to showcase the same.
Overwhelmed with the response to the trailer and music videos on digital platforms, producer Harinder Sikka says, "This is a miracle, and there is certainly a divine intervention that is mentoring the movie. I pledge all proceeds to be used for langar, irrespective of caste and creed, in line with Guru Sahab's teachings."
Nanak Shah Fakir, produced by Gurbani Media Pvt. Ltd., releases April 17.
