Sanah Kapoor, who is getting her big Bollywood break in Vikas Bahl's upcoming film Shaandaar, bares her heart out about her first film, her equation with sister-in-law Mira and the crackling chemistry between Shahid and Mira in an exclusive interview to IndiaToday.in.
Shahid Kapoor and his khaandaan are more often than not in news these days, courtesy his dhamakedaar shaadi and his upcoming film Shaandaar. If the news of his marriage to a much-younger Mira Rajput was the subject of many a discussion, his selfies with "Baby wife" had sent social media into a tizzy. And now, his half-sister's Bollywood debut has cooked up quite a storm.
Sometime in March this year, the news of Shahid marrying a girl who was in her third year of college did raise many eyebrows. The much-evident age gap and the non-celebrity status had people talking non-stop for months. But impervious to all the talk, an unperturbed Shahid tied the knot with Mira in a low-key affair on July 7. And ever since, #ShahidKiShaadi has become a talking point for both Shahid's fans and his detractors. Be it their honeymoon destination or the rumours about Mira's Bollywood debut, fans have been devouring any dope on their lives.
Shahid's shaandaar selfies with wife Mira are proof enough that the two are like any other much-in-love couple, and his sister Sanah certifies the same - the lovebirds are in a happy space right now. "He has grown as a person. He is happy and very much in love with Mira. They both make an amazing couple. I am very happy for him," says Sanah.
Mira's entry into the Kapoor family hasn't just made Shahid happy, even Sanah is all praise for her sister-in-law. Within a few months, the two have become quite close to each other. "Mira is an amazing person who has entered our family. I can't imagine the time when she wasn't there. She has so easily become a part of us. She is so lovely and caring. Mira and I are like best friends, we are very close to each other. She is almost my age, so it's easy to relate to each other."
Shahid's half-brother Ishaan calls Mira "Bhabhi doll", and Sanah reveals that her sister-in-law has strictly asked Sanah to not call her Bhabhi since the two are of almost the same age. "She gets really irritated when I call her bhabhi. So, whenever I have to pull her leg, I call her that," adds Sanah.
For Sanah, real and reel are not poles apart from each other. If she shares a special bond with Mira in real life, even her reel chemistry with Alia Bhatt, who plays her sister in Shaandaar, is un-missable. Sanah says it was a great experience to work with Alia in the Vikas Bahl film. "Alia is an amazing girl. She was supportive and fun on the sets of Shaandaar. I think we had a great chemistry. We actually seemed like sisters and it was a lot of fun working with her," says Shahid's sister.
In her debut film, apart from Alia, Sanah gets to share screen space with her father Pankaj Kapur and brother Shahid Kapoor too. But things haven't been easy for this star kid. Without taking any help from her family to bag her first film, the debutante is happy to have made her family proud. She further reveals that Vikas was unaware that she was Shahid's sister until he signed her for the film. Moreover, her family had no clue that she was going for an audition for a film.
"I got a call from Mukesh Chabbra's (the casting director) office one day and they asked me to come for the audition of this character. I never actually thought that I would get it. Vikas Sir saw the audition and thought I could be his Isha. When I went to meet him the first time after he selected me, that's when he found out that I am Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak's daughter. He was surprised. When I agreed to do the film, I came and told my parents that I have got this role and everyone was surprised," adds the debutante.
But the journey hasn't been a bed of roses for her. The pressure of being a star kid has been even heavier here. Sanah says that it was intimidating for her to perform in front of her dad. "In the beginning, it was a lot of pressure. It was intimidating; firstly you are working with such amazing actors and then they are your family. So there is more to prove to them. Working with dad was so intimidating because he is such a fantastic actor, and as an actor, his approval means so much; and then as a daughter, it means even more. But then eventually, once we started shooting and once I got a little more comfortable, I realised that it was also a boon having them on the sets. I felt secure to a certain extent that if I ever needed anything, I would just turn around and they were there. So I think it was a mix of both," Sanah signs off.
