Have you seen viral videos of actors Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor manhandling fans and mediapersons during Ganesh visarjan? Well, Rishi blames social media for giving weight to half the story, and says the videos were edited in a way to show them in bad light.
Many even claimed that the stars were drunk. “How can anyone even think that we will be drunk on such an auspicious occasion? ... People write anything, believe anything. No one wants to hear our perspective. At the end, we get negative publicity,” he laments.
On Thursday evening, Rishi, brother Randhir and son Ranbir walked four kilometers before immersing their Ganpati idol. Their procession resulted in chaos, with fans and media “hounding” them for pictures. And videos of Kapoor family members pushing and slapping some journalists surfaced on the internet.

Rishi argues they had given media “ample time” to take photos and videos. “Ganpati visarjan by RK studios in Chembur is one of the biggest processions we’ve been doing for the last 64 years. There was a crowd following us and to top it, heavy rains. Then there was media hounding us into posing and giving bytes and getting in front of us while walking. When people don’t listen, what option do we have but to push? Even the police does the same,” he says.
Did Ranbir, too, slap a media person? “He wouldn’t hit a fly. How can they even think of him slapping anyone?” rues Rishi.
