Rock On 2 box office collection day 4: Demonetisation coupled with a poor script has surely made a dent in film's box office collections.

Rock On 2 has failed to deliver a fresh perspective. Most people have found it utterly tiresome, trying too hard to cash in on the success of Rock On. Is a poorly written script deterring people from coming to theatres? That can be argued later.
Rock On 2 box office collection day 4: The film starring Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor has collected Rs. 7.01 crores during the weekend.

The film starring Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor has collected Rs. 7.01 crores during the weekend. Film collected Rs 2.02 crore on the first day and it didn’t quite witness growth following that. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared,” #RockOn2 is DISAPPOINTING… Fri 2.02 cr, Sat 2.41 cr, Sun 2.58 cr. Total: rs 7.01 cr. India biz.”

Even films that got mixed reviews but had a stellar cast have managed to rake in money at the box office in the past. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay are recent examples. Both films were written off by critics. But the cast, songs and most importantly brand worked for them. People rarely miss an opportunity to go out and enjoy a weekend. But this time they just couldn’t.

Rock On 2 was not so lucky. On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the withdrawal of two currency notes. The announcement came just two days ahead of the release. Filmmakers didn’t postpone the release date.

Instead, makers went ahead and tried to do the best they could. Makers kept in mind that a lot of people will turn to online booking as buying tickets in lower denominations of Rs 100 would be difficult and inconvenient. Theatre owners waived off the additional charges while booking a ticket online. Other incentives were followed and promoted by the team.

However, collections tell a different story. Even though Rock On 2 was a multiplex film, it failed to attract usually tech-savvy college-going and working professional crowd who mostly use cards.
People had different priorities this weekend. They were busy queuing up outside banks and ATMs to exchange old notes and withdraw money. Who has the time to watch a movie? Demonetisation coupled with a poor script has surely made a dent in Rock On 2 box office collections. Ritesh Sidhwani has earlier said that people have different priorities.

Even though the government is saying that there is no panic, citizens are facing  minor problems every day. The lack of liquid cash could extend to 2-3 weeks. Will Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi also be affected by the crisis? That remains to be seen.

Every single person is directly affected by demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes. The crisis has also shattered a lot of myths including a large section of the middle-class population is using plastic money.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange also saw the severe downfall in collections and made only Rs 78 lakhs this Friday. The film did well last week. Other films including Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay are also affected. ADHM managed to collect only Rs 70 lakhs this Friday.
