Vipul Shah knows for a fact that his film which opens this Friday will incur losses but he is ready bear the same in larger national interest.
The demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 notes has made people line up outside banks and ATMs to deposit and withdraw cash so much so that theatres and restaurants have seen a dip in their business. Bollywood films that opened last Friday at the box office fared poorly. Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On 2 failed to make any decent money owing to sparsely populated shows. The prevailing situation, however, has not made producer Vipul Shah a worried man.
Shah knows for a fact that his film which opens this Friday will incur losses but he is ready bear the same in larger national interest. Talking to indianexpress.com, Vipul said, “The country is going through a change and our PM has taken a step that will change our country and the whole country needs to stand behind it. People are supporting the decision too. They must be going through a lot of stress owing to standing in long queues, shortage of money and all other problems but when you look at people talking on camera on news channels, they are saying yes there are hardships but we support Modi. And these are the not the rich people of our country. So we feel it is our duty to stand with our government and not create chaos by shifting our film and making it clash with some other film.”
Acceding to the fact that his film will face losses, Vipul said, “Yes, we will lose some money for sure. Whatever is the capacity of the film, we will underachieve it because there is a lot of stress. At the same time, we also need to think how people have been standing in queues for days. From 8th November to 18th November after having suffered a lot of hardship when they will look for entertainment, it is not fair on our part to not release the film because we will suffer losses. We need to be there for them. We will accept losses that we will incur as a part of life. You have to deal with them and move on. But to entertain is our responsibility.”
Force 2 stars John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha and Tahir Raj Bhasin in lead roles and the movie has been directed by Abhinay Deo.
