Tubelight will release this Eid and we have marked June 23 on our calendars. After Baahubali 2 everyone will be waiting for the Salman storm to engulf box office and make Bollywood cash rich. Everyone knows for a fact that it is not going to earn anywhere less than Rs 300 crore. But we also have a feeling that it might be able to cross the lifetime collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s January release, Raees, in its opening weekend itself! Wait, before you pounce on us claiming that it is a preposterous prediction, we have valid reasons to think so and Salman Khan’s last three films are proof.
Let’s begin with Sultan that released last year. The film was fortunate to get a five day weekend. It opened with historic numbers (Rs. 36.54 crore) and wrapped up the first weekend with a whopping Rs 180.36 crore. Raees, too, got a five day weekend to prosper (January 25 i.e. Wednesday) but could earn only Rs. 137.51 crore. It is reason enough to think that Tubelight can fetch that amount easily because it doesn’t have to share screens with any other film like SRK’s film did. It had released with Kaabil and thus, the numbers were less.
Now, if you consider Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which released on November 12, 2015, it got a four day weekend and managed to earn Rs. 129.77 crore and as for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it had earned Rs. 102.60 crore. Let us explain this to you further.
