In 2004, Tanushree Dutta won the Miss India Universe crown. The following year, she made an entire generation her 'aashiqs' with a striking debut in Aashiq Banaya Aapne.

She went on to appear in several films, including Chocolate, 'Raqeeb: Rivals in Love, Dhol, Risk, Good Boy, Bad Boy, and Speed, but none of them could recreate the success of her first film.
After a spate of flops, Tanushree disappeared from the Bollywood scene. She was last seen in Jag Mundhra's thriller Apartment, which hit the screens in 2010.
Earlier this week, Tanushree was clicked at the Mumbai airport, looking drastically different from her former self. Dressed in a blue shirt and black tights, she was almost unrecognisable.
A look at her Instagram account revealed that she has been living in the US and this is her first visit to the country in two years. The actress shared that she was "nervous and excited" about coming to Mumbai, and that she will return to the US soon.
Do you know what she has been up to since she quit acting?
In an interview with a leading magazine, Tanushree said that she tried to find solace in spirituality after hitting rock-bottom professionally, but things did not go as planned.
"All those who run away to ashrams, thinking they are doing something great are just performing daily chores there - cooking, gardening etc. After all, the place has to be run," she said, adding that "the anxieties, the frustrations, the depression remain".
Things changed when she went to Ladakh. "In Ladakh, I came across a Buddhist meditation centre where I learnt the simple breathing technique. There was no big talk! That did the trick. Someone returned my life to me. An uncanny peace returned," she said.
During this period, Tanushree realised that Bollywood was not for her. She is currently living a spiritual life in the US, far away from the prying eyes of the media.
