In the film, Riteish plays a vertically challenged guy while Tara Sutaria plays the character of a mute girl. Earlier, when the makers announced that Riteish is set to play a dwarf, the audience started comparing his character with Shah Rukh Khan's bauua from Zero. When we asked Director Milap Zaveri about this, he replied, "When I wrote the script, his character was supposed to be a dwarf and it was part of the story and part of the plot." Talking about the connection or inspiration of a dwarf's character, he quoted, "It is not inspired by Zero's character, it's very different. Shah Rukh sir is a very lovable character in Zero and in my film, Riteish is an out-and-out villain, with only negative shades and a wicked sense of humour. So it's nothing similar to SRK sir's Zero."

Talking about reviews, our critic Russel D'Silva gave the film 1.5 stars and wrote, "I highly recommend Marjaavaan to all filmmaking students, especially those with a keen interest in hardcore commercial cinema.
