Bollywood has been helming a lot of biographical content lately. And it surely gets exciting to see real-life stories making it on the silver screen. Watching the lesser-known, the lesser-seen facts come alive in the film is a cinephile’s dream come true.


While many big Bollywood biographies were lined up for 2020 release, the covid-19 induced pandemic played a major spoilsport. With the inevitable lockdown and restrictions in the film shootings, many films were either put on hold with their release or others had to stay stuck in their initial schedules.

However, since we are in the year 2021, things have started to look a little brighter. As the government eased lockdown restrictions with necessary precautions in place and cinemas too have opened with varied occupancy in different parts of the country, going back to the theatres to watch our most-awaited films on the big screen has brought back the excitement. Here are the top 5 most awaited biographies to look forward to this year.

This one surely tops the list. The movie was almost getting its big release last April until the covid-19 virus pushed its release indefinitely. However, now the film has been slated for a release this year. Based on the 1983 World Cup win by the Indian cricket team, the film has a stellar cast of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Pankaj Tripathi among others. A Kabir Khan directorial, this one is surely going to give your inner patriotic, goosebumps.


Thalaivi


Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, this film will trace the life of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha, who was lovingly called Thalaivi. The biographical film will trace the life of the late politician, including the time when she worked in films. Initially slated for a June 2020 release, the new dates are said to be out soon for the year 2021.


Maidaan



Ajay Devgn may be making history with this film, as it is one of the first Bollywood films based on the sport of football. Ajay will be seen playing the role of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim and will trace the golden era of Indian football. Initially slated for an October release in 2020, the new release date has been kept for October 2021.


Gangubai Kathiawadi



This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial is one of the most awaited films. With a strong biographical plot and Alia Bhatt’s look from the film going viral, this project has surely got our eyes on it. The film is based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai about a madame of a Kamathipura brothel by the name of Gangubai Kothewali. The film is set to have cameos by Ajay Devgn, Emraan Haashmi and Huma Qureshi. The film completed its final schedule in November 2020 and a release date is expected soon.
