Global diva Priyanka Chopra is elated as her memoir Unfinished is all set to arrive today on February 9. After tying the knot to American artist Nick Jonas, she added his surname to her maiden name, without dropping her maiden surname, Chopra. The actress shared about her reaction when she first saw her post wedlock surname appear in print when she made her appearance on Barstool Sports’ Chicks In The Office podcast. The actress revealed she was amazed.
She said, “The first time I saw it, I was like, 'Oh, oh ok, that’s my name now" Speaking about why she added Jonas to her name, she was shared during her interaction with Just Jared revealed, that she wanted to honour her tradition and did want to let go of her identity. The actress as stated in the report, this being it more of an "in-between" for her. She was also quoted saying, "I inherited a beautiful name and I hope to live up to its legacy."
The actress further added, in the next 50 years guys might take up their wife's name and not change the bride’s name and then the things will be all normal.
She added, "And we have to like maybe hopefully in another 50 years, it’ll be guys taking our names too, or just not changing our names, you know, and that’ll be normalised. But I don’t think I was at that place when I got married, I kind of wanted to honour my parents’ tradition and that’s just how it happened."
On the end note, the actress shares her surname has been her identity hence, there is no thought about the diva giving away her surname.
