Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar starred in Rajiv Rai's Mohra |
In the history of Mohra spanning three decades, both Aishwarya Rai and Sridevi declined the film, leading it to be accepted by Raveena Tandon, who initially hesitated to take on the role.
Before achieving stardom in the film industry, Raveena Tandon was cast in Rajiv Rai's 1994 movie "Mohra," alongside Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. Despite songs like "Tip Tip Barsa Pani" and "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast" contributing to the film's success, Raveena was not the initial choice for the role. According to Shabbir Boxwala, a co-screenplay writer for the film, Aishwarya Rai and Sridevi were considered before Raveena was finalized.
Initially, "Mohra" featured Divya Bharti, but due to her sudden demise, the role had to be recast. Shabbir mentioned that Sridevi and Aishwarya were also approached for the role. Aishwarya's potential involvement was hindered by her Miss World preparations. Additionally, she had to decline Yash Chopra's "Darr" due to her commitment to the beauty pageant.
It is interesting to note that Aishwarya Rai was a sought-after actress even before her debut, being considered for prominent roles in successful films like "Mohra" and "Darr."

He also mentioned that Sridevi was given the opportunity to star in the movie but suggested that she declined as Akshay and Suniel had not yet made a mark in the film industry. "We did offer Mohra to Sridevi as well. However, we lacked prominent male stars at that time. Akshay and Suniel were not established. Therefore, any actress would hesitate before accepting Mohra. No one could have predicted that the song 'Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast' would revolutionize Akshay's career and the movie," he explained.

Upon offering the film to Raveena, the creators faced initial hesitation from her due to a kissing scene with Akshay in the song "Tip Tip Barsa Paani." Despite recognizing the project's quality, Raveena was concerned about her father's reaction to the scene. Rajiv, however, jokingly suggested not showing the film to her dad. After some contemplation, Raveena eventually agreed to take on the role. Shabbir shared this anecdote, highlighting Raveena's initial reluctance and eventual decision to proceed with the film despite her reservations.
