Salman Khan files 100 crore defamation suit against TV channel for sting operation

Salman Khan has filed a defamation suit against a TV news channel in the Bombay high court for damages worth Rs 100 crore.

Khan was accused of poaching a chinkaras at Bhawad on the outskirts of Jodhpur on 26 September, 1998, and the other at Ghoda Farms on 28 September, 1998 during the shoot for the film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Times of India reported that in a suit filed before a division bench of the HC in August this year, Khan claimed a sting operation conducted by the channel in the 1998 chinkara poaching case was malicious and defamatory.

He wants the channel to be restrained from releasing or making any part of that sting operation public.

According to Hindustan Times, the channel claimed in the sting operation “witnesses claimed they saw Khan shoot the endangered chinkaras in Jodhpur”.

However, later the “witness/es turned hostile and claimed the video was doctored”.
The channel claimed that they have already erased the tape and the script of the sting operation, including other material on 24 August 2016. In a hearing that took place earlier this month, both the parties submitted affidavits and informed the court that they were working out a settlement in an article on Deccan Chronicle.
