After a major confusion regarding the death of rockstar, Tom Petty, his family has finally come forward and confirmed the news. The musician’s family issued a statement that read, “On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.” The musician had suffered a cardiac arrest, late night, on Sunday and he breathed his last on Monday. He was 66.
Earlier, there was a confusion over the rockstar’s death, when after a news network announced it, Tom’s daughter put up a post on her Instagram account, denying the reports, terming them false and quashing all rumours. While this came as a relief for the musician’s many fans, it was obviously short-lived.
Tom Petty, who has several hits like American Girl, Don’t Come Around Here No More and I Won’t Back Down to his credit, had, only last week, completed a tour marking 40 years of his band, Heartbreakers. The rockstar has a huge fan base and tributes for him have already started pouring in online. In his career, spanning 40 years, Tom had sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.In 2002, Petty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
