Juhi Chawla says Shah Rukh Khan would call KKR meeting at Mannat |
Juhi Chawla talked about the beginning of Kolkata Knight Riders and how she and Shah Rukh Khan started the IPL team. She remembered that all decisions, like the team's uniform and jingle, were made at Mannat.
Juhi Chawla, a Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner alongside Shah Rukh Khan and her husband Jay Mehta, discussed the preparations leading up to the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season. At an event hosted by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, she revealed that Lalit Modi had approached her and Shah Rukh to purchase a team, expressing his desire for "glamorous people" to be team owners in the IPL.

When questioned about her entrepreneurial endeavors, Juhi mentioned that Shah Rukh and Jay took care of much of the groundwork in the early days. Reflecting on the team's inception, Juhi shared, "Lalit wanted the owners to exude glamour and approached us, suggesting that Shah Rukh and I become team owners. I felt that in India, cricket and the film industry are the most popular, and it would be wonderful to be part of cricket."
Juhi admitted that despite acquiring the team, they were inexperienced in managing a cricket franchise. "We were clueless about running a cricket franchise.
I recall attending meetings at Shah Rukh's residence, where everything from creating the team's jingle to designing their uniforms was handled internally," she remarked. Juhi also reminisced about her initial disapproval of the players' first uniform, which was black and gold. "I wasn't pleased with the black and gold color scheme because black is considered unlucky," she chuckled.

Juhi remembered that in the early years, all Kolkata Knight Riders meetings took place late at night, leading her to discontinue attending them shortly after. Due to Shah Rukh's busy daytime schedule, meetings were typically set for 10 pm, starting around 11 pm. Discussions would prolong the start until around 12-12:30 am, causing Juhi to feel drowsy during the meetings. After a few sessions, she decided to stop attending altogether, expressing her reluctance by telling the others to proceed without her involvement.
