The Oscar winner will also participate in an informal talk during the September 5-15 event.
At the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, Cate Blanchett will receive a Tribute Award and take part in an In Conversation With event.
The Oscar winner will receive the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award in Toronto on September 8. Blanchett most recently appeared in Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin's Rumours, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to have its North American premiere at TIFF in September.
The proceeds from the Tribute Awards benefit the festival's TIFF Every Story Fund, which promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in filmmaking. Each year, the Fairmont Royal York Hotel hosts a gala dinner fundraiser for the festival's charity endeavors, which is also a precursor to Oscar recognition.
"Cate Blanchett is a marvel. One of the greatest actors in film history, she has continuously demonstrated range, depth, and audacity on screen. Offscreen, she has been a relentless advocate for greater diversity and justice in a variety of industries', TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said in a statement on Tuesday.
The star of Tár, Blue Jasmine, Carol, and Elizabeth is also a successful producer through her firm Dirty Films (The New Boy, Miss America), and she has worked as a co-artistic director for the Sydney Theatre firm.
TIFF Tribute Award winners typically have films in Toronto's official programme.
Toronto previously revealed that David Cronenberg would receive the Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award, while Amy Adams, an Oscar-nominated performer, would receive the TIFF Tribute Performer Award. Previous Tribute Awards recipients include Jessica Chastain, Roger Deakins, Colman Domingo, Brendan Fraser, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Joaquin Phoenix, Taika Waititi, Michelle Yeoh, and Chloé Zhao.
